Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
