Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
