Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for questions to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant backing from management,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Reaction

The manager expressed regret over known failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with outcomes so bad.”

He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”

“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
