The American champion Optimistic of Being 'in prime form' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "perfectly prepared" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup races.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have the right line on the first jump," Vonn said. "After that, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She boasts one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning two decades.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup campaign includes a total of nine races taking place before the season finals in Norway on 21 March 2026.
