The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Survival Horror with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a girl containing several human souls within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips show the protagonist navigating a desolate church.

A World of Personal Dread

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will change involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four personas claims that the body belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
