Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
